Terms of Service
Last updated 13 September 2026
These terms cover the LightOfTheCross Android app and website, published by BuildByRK. Using either means you accept them.
Your account
There is no sign-in. Every install of the Android app is an anonymous guest account, and your progress lives on our servers against a random account id stored on your device. If you buy a subscription or lifetime plan through Google Play, that purchase is what lets us recognise your account again after a reinstall — keep access to the Google account you bought it with, because that is what carries your progress from one install to the next.
What the app is
LightOfTheCross teaches the content of the Bible: what is in it, where, and how the pieces connect. It is a study aid. It is not pastoral care, not counselling, not a substitute for your own reading, and it does not speak for any church or denomination. Where scholars disagree, we try to say so rather than pick for you.
Subscriptions and payments
All payments in LightOfTheCross are made through Google Play Billing. There is no other payment processor, on the website or anywhere else — if you paid for LightOfTheCross, you paid Google Play.
- A free trial is offered once per account, through Google Play. Everything before it is genuinely free — no card is asked for.
- Subscriptions are billed by Google Play and renew automatically until cancelled. Cancel any time in the Google Play app, under Payments & subscriptions, or from the Membership screen in the app, which links you straight there. Cancelling stops the next charge; access runs to the end of the period you already paid for.
- A lifetime purchase is a single one-time payment. Pay once, and it is yours for as long as LightOfTheCross exists, including everything we add to it afterwards — not a subscription, and nothing further to renew. That said, it is a statement of intent, not an unconditional promise that the service will run forever: like any product from any company, LightOfTheCrosscould someday be discontinued for reasons outside anyone's control.
- Refunds are handled by Google under Google Play's own refund policy. Write to us and we will help however we can, but the refund decision itself is Google's.
- Prices can change. An existing subscription keeps its price until you cancel it.
Fair use
Do not:
- Scrape, bulk-download or republish the lessons, questions or card artwork.
- Automate play, or manipulate XP or streaks.
- Attack the service, or try to reach another person's account or data.
We can suspend or remove an account that does these things. Where it is not obviously deliberate, we will tell you first.
What you write
Journal entries, prayer notes and highlights stay yours, and they stay private. There is no sharing or social feature anywhere in LightOfTheCross — nothing you write is ever shown to another user, ever public, or ever visible to anyone but you. We do not use it to train anything, and it is deleted when you delete your account.
Our content
Biblical texts are quoted from public-domain translations: the King James Version and the World English Bible (worldenglish.bible). The text itself is delivered to the app through getBible.net's API. The lessons, questions, artwork and code are ours, and your subscription is a licence to use them in the app — not a transfer of them.
Availability
We aim to keep the service running and to keep your data safe, but it is provided as-is. We do not promise it will be uninterrupted or error-free. To the extent the law allows, our liability is limited to what you paid us in the twelve months before the claim — except where the law does not allow that limit at all, such as for death or personal injury caused by negligence, fraud, or any other liability that cannot lawfully be capped. Nothing in this section removes a right you have under mandatory consumer-protection law that cannot be waived by agreement.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of India, and BuildByRK operates LightOfTheCross from India. If you are a consumer resident in the European Union, the United Kingdom, or elsewhere, nothing in these terms takes away the protections your own country's law guarantees you as a consumer — where a mandatory local protection and this clause conflict, your local protection applies.
Ending it
You can delete your account at any time, in the app or at /delete-account. Cancel any active subscription first — deleting the account does not cancel it.
Changes
We will announce material changes in the app before they take effect. Continuing to use LightOfTheCross after that means you accept the new terms.
